Early (pre-1982) Ivy-Leaved Cyclamen (Cyclamen repandum) 6 1/2" oatmeal/cereal bowl. Four flower head design lacks the plant's botanical and common names and instead includes a small, light green "3" just below moth at right. Version of the Second Trophy ID backstamp has Susan Williams-Ellis's name in banner below and a small, bold italicized "1972" in an oval at bottom center. *The Ivy-Leaved Cyclamen is one of the original six oatmeal bowl motifs and remains in production on a variety of pieces. The motif, however, has changed over time: it was introduced with four flower heads, as seen here, but later redesigned to have five or nine, depending on the piece. **As for the small, light green "3", Portmeirion used a numbering system for the Botanic Garden motifs in the late 1970s and/or early 1980s - I have yet to find a source stating an exact start and/or end date. (See Jenkins and McKay, Portmeirion Pottery [2000], p. 111, and . Jenkins and McKay also note that, since the oatmeal bowls originally did not include the botanical/common names as the other Botanic Garden pieces did, they might have been numbered earlier as "an aid to identification".) ***Second Trophy ID backstamp was used 1972/3-1982 (see and others). This is one of two early Botanic Garden oatmeal bowls I am listing, the other is the Barbados Cotton Flower (Gossypium barbadense) . They have been packed away together for at least 15-20+ years with other vintage ceramics (some also being listed). Unfortunately, I do not know - and can not find - any particulars about them (i.e., how, when, where, why or from whom they were acquired). Offers for both bowls welcome; I am happy to combine shipping. From a smoke-free home.
